Eva Murphy Resume
  • Name Eva Murphy

  • Title Harpist

  • Experience 30

  • Biography I began studying as a child under a University harp professor.  I attended Southern Methodist University in Dallas, Texas on a harp Scholarship, and graduated with a degree in Harp Performance in 1983.  I have 35 years of professional experience performing on the harp, most of those years performing on the harp on a full-time basis (which is a rarity, even among pro harpists).  I have held widely-varied harpist positions, from nightly entertainment in clubs, hotels and restaurants to being the Principal Harpist for a Symphony Orchestra, long-term, in a large city.  I have performed across the U.S., in Central America, Canada, Europe and Asia. I am a permanent resident of St. Louis, Missouri. I play literally all types of music.  I will take my harp anywhere to play for events....from very casual affairs (including playing outdoors) to very formal settings. Weddings are my specialty.  I take pride in my ability to do whatever it takes to make the bride's vision for her wedding day a reality.

  • Speciality Classically trained, with additional private training by the top jazz harpist in the world, Deborah Henson-Conant in Boston, Massachusetts

  • Education Degreed specifically in Harp Performance

  • Associations American Harp Society, International Society of Folk Harpists and Craftsmen, American String Teachers Association, Association of Bridal Consultants (St. Louis Chapter)

  • Certification Certified to teach Music (specialization in strings) in several states

  • Awards First Prize winner in several solo and ensemble competitions since age 12. All-Region Orchestra Principal Harpist in High School, Mu Phi Epsilon Music Academic Honor Society in college, Gold Centennial Pin Award given by Missouri State University to the top ten percent of graduates in Education in 2005, the centennial year of the University (my certification was in Music Education, with specialization in teaching Strings), appointed Principal Harpist for a Symphony Orchestra in a large city in Texas
